JOCKEY PROFILE
James Eddery, from Blackrock, County Dublin, was a successful jockey in his own right, becoming Irish Champion Flat jockey on two occasions. He finished second in the 1955 Epsom Derby beaten a length and a half by Phil Drake (SR 2043), but got compensation in the 1955 Irish Derby on Panaslipper (SR 2011), and two years later won the 1957 Irish Oaks on Silken Glider. However, he was much more famous as the father of 11 children, many of his sons becoming top jockeys, including the multiple Classic winner Pat and his brother Paul Eddery. |
